Surly Cross Check
RecoveredWhat happened
My bike was in a locked private garage. I think that the garage door kicked back open after a car left and someone walked in and took it.

Recovery notes
On 11/7/14, the CSBR received the following email from the former victim: I got a phone call out of the blue with the person asking if I was the owner of a stolen Cross Check. He had been looking for a used bike on craigslist and found mine listed. He called to get more information, thought it sounded fishy, and searched your database for the serial number (which was listed with the ad). My post came up and he contacted me saying the bike was at a pawn shop in the suburbs. I called the Chicago Police and gave them the information including police report number, how I was made aware of the listing, and how I knew it was mine. They talked to the pawn shop, placed a hold on the bike, and picked it up for me the next week. I don't know many details but it sounds like the bike had been bought/sold at more than one pawn shop around Chicago over the past two years. I'm so happy to have it back, I never expected to hear of it again, especially after so long! I never would have recovered the bike if it wasn't for the database you guys maintain. Thank you so much!
