What happened
Students' bikes are locked up to this rack all the time, as it's right outside a dorm. It's also set away from the street, and away from non-university residences, which leads me to believe it was a fellow student. Somehow--and the public safety official was completely confused by this, too--the lock was left locked to the rack, and the bike was gone. I saw it was stolen at one in the afternoon, and I had seen it last around two in the morning. I have no idea how it could have been stolen, as the lock is not a combination one.
Bike details
- Type
- Road Bike
- Color
- Red
- Condition
- Almost new, with some scuffing to the paint. It's a fairly new model, large, and a stepthrough. Brown seats and handlebars, rack on the back, which, at the time of theft, had a black milk crate fastened to it with assorted bungie cords and cable ties. There was also an emblem from Rapid Transit Cycle Shop on it. The red model of this bike is not as popular as the others, and so it's fairly singular. I've never seen anyone else riding one.
