Cannondale T700

What happened

Don't know how it was stolen. The combination may have only been dialed to 1 or 2 off of the opening combination, so someone may have played with the digits one at a time making small adjustments to open the lock. In a follow up email from the owner, he stated: "I found some additional information about the theft this afternoon, actually - upon taking a closer look, someone cut/sawed through the ~1/2" steel bar that was part of the railing leading up to the front door of the house I stay at. This is highly unusual as the area I'm in (DePaul campus) consists of mostly college students. For the past few days, a demolition crew has been knocking down a building very nearby, north of my house at the corner of Belden and Bissell. I have a suspicion that one of the construction workers may have used his tools very early in the morning to free the bike from the rail and take it, possibly storing it in his van/truck out of sight. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do about it...
