1980s-1990s TREK 1000 aluminum

What happened

I got home and stored my bike in the fully enclosed and secured (locked and deadbolted) back porch/stairwell/storage area in the rear of our home. My roommate's bike was also back there. When I got up 6 hours later both bikes were gone and the door was wide open. The police won't call this a burglary or a breaking and entering because the doorknob was not broken. However, the area was is fully enclosed so it might as well have been in our living room. Another roommate was woken up around 4AM to the sounds of commotion in the backyard but was not so concerned that she thought to investigate. The bikes were not visible through a window or any other way from the outside so the thieves who took these bikes had to have known they were there by watching us walk them to the back yard each day. This leads me to believe it was someone from our neighborhood. Which makes me feel pretty terrible. NOTE: THE IMAGE INCLUDED IS NOT OF THE EXACT BIKE BUT OF THE SAME MODEL. frame: black Trek 1000 (1988-1990) aluminum - it would be faded and slightly battered but with pink decals and no rust, sticker from Working Bikes near the cranks handles: teal cork bar tape - also very worn and falling apart on the underside cable housing: white - almost cream colored from age parts: Shimano rear delaurier, breaks, and break levers (no front delaurier but the shifter is still intact) wheels: rear wheel 700 x 23c Shimano w/ flywheel tires: continental Gatorskins - both pretty well worn
