Trek Cruiser - 2009, model # 2700
What happened
I locked my bike to a bike rack on the NE corner of Clark and Division, which is the quiet, dark, less-traveled corner of an otherwise busy intersection. It was parked next to another bike, in front of a closed business. I was gone for no longer than an hour. When I returned, the bike was gone, along with the kryptonite U lock and cable too. Not a spoke remained. I can't remember exactly how I locked my bike that evening, but, often, when I won't be long (as in this case) and/or the bike rack is crowded, I will just wrap the kryptonite cable around the bike rack and front wheel and frame - the U lock I lock on the frame only. Meaning, the thief just had to cut through the cable in order to take off with the bike. My guess is that is what happened here.
Bike details

- White(ish)
- Size

- Condition
- The bike is mostly white/cream with tan/olive trim (if I remember the trim correctly). It has a springy comfortable seat that is brown leather, with the same brown leather trim on the handle bars. The tires have black fenders on them. The back tire has a mount for a basket, along with a big black metal basket that normally slides on and off but I had it secured (with ties/little locks) to the mount. There is also a mount on the front handle bars where a smaller basket can slide in and out of, though the front basket was not on when the bike was stolen. The bike has a double kick stand, and it has a cute lil' bell on the handlebars.
