Cannondale - Six Carbon
Recovered
What happened
My black Cannondale was stolen from my locked entryway. The thief pried open one of the windows during the night and took only the bike (he must have known I kept it there). He then unlocked the door from the inside and left it standing wide open. I found it missing in the morning. (The image is a still from a movie I made I would never actually lock it like that). The bike was a gift so I don't have the serial number. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Recovery notes
Update 9/10/2010 On September 3 the bike was brought in to Iron Cycles to change a fl@ tire. The "owner" was unable to do it himself because there were locking skewers and he didn't have the key. Shop employee suspected it was stolen, checked the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry, found this listing, and called police. Police took the owner away in handcuffs-- further legal follow-up not known. The victim's father later returned from a vacation and went to the police station to claim the bike with the key to the skewers. The serial number had been filed off, a few random stickers had been added, the water bottle cage had been removed and re-installed upside-down but otherwise the bike was in similar condition to its pre-stolen state. The "owner" told police he had bought it in a nearby alley for $120. Update: 5/28/2011-- Police have arrested and charged the actual thief via fingerprinting of the window the thief gained access to.
