2009 Fuji Cross Comp
RecoveredWhat happened
I locked the bike up in the morning. When I left the office at 6:15 to leave the bike was gone. In fact, there were no other bikes on the bike rack. Usually there are so perhaps there were more stolen.
Bike details
- Type
- Other (describe in detail below)
- Color
- Cyclocross bike (road bike with wider 700x32c tires)
- Size
- 58
- Condition
- My Fuji Cross Comp is black and silver with a red Fuji logo on the side. The bike is a little dirty but roadworthy. I mounted a Topeak rack and Wald shopping basket on the rear. I also had a Transit trunk bag that mounted to the rack (possible removed by thief). The swapped the original saddle for a Forte Classic and the original stem for a shorter Forte as well. These are probably the most defining features of the bike. I don't think another Fuji will have my stem and saddle.

Recovery notes
Update 12/5/2010: Volunteer bicycle recovery group member won the bike on eBay. When he went to pick it up in Schaumburg on 12/5/2010 he discovered that it was a match for this listing (by serial number). The owner was called but didn't know if he could get a ride to Schaumburg. Local police were summoned but could not find the bike in a national database despite a Chicago Police Report having been filed at time of theft. They refused to provide any further assistance. Fortunately the victim was able to make it out to Schaumburg and the seller handed over the bike without any exchange of money. Seller claimed he had bought the bike at Swap-O-Rama, 41st and Ashland, about 2-3 weeks ago. Saddle, bar tape and pedals had been changed. While buyer was awaiting police he noted that a van pulled up and other bikes were being removed from the back of the location.
